COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA in Journalism and Media at the University of Leicester provides students with a comprehensive education in both journalism and media studies, blending practical skills with critical understanding of the contemporary media landscape. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules such as News Basics, Features Journalism, and Radio Journalism, while also exploring core concepts in media and communication, journalism ethics, and the study of media frameworks. The second year builds on these skills with a focus on digital and social media journalism, research practice, and options that allow students to specialize in areas such as news production, political communication, global film culture, magazine journalism, sports journalism, and data journalism. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through publishing projects and a dissertation, enabling them to produce professional-quality work while pursuing independent research on an area of interest. Additional optional modules allow further specialization in areas such as investigative journalism, entrepreneurial media practice, crime journalism, global cultures, media ethics, political journalism, and communication in music or public relations. Throughout the course, students gain practical, professional, and analytical skills, preparing them to operate across multiple platforms in a rapidly evolving media environment.
