COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Relations BA at Leicester provides students with a comprehensive understanding of global politics, history, and contemporary international issues. In the first year, students study core modules including power in the world economy, the Global Cold War from 1945 to 1989, key concepts in international relations, and order and disorder in international relations since 1989, alongside optional modules covering American and European politics, political concepts, and introduction to politics. This foundation equips students with the analytical skills and contextual knowledge necessary to engage with complex global challenges. In the second year, students develop their theoretical and research skills through modules such as international theory and dissertation preparation, while selecting from a wide range of optional modules addressing topics like political ideas, gender and global politics, politics of the Global South, international security, foreign policy analysis, and historical perspectives on contemporary environmental and political issues. In the final year, students focus on specialised topics in global and regional politics, including feminism, the American presidency, nuclear weapons, contemporary British foreign policy, international migration, global justice, and the political legacies of conflict. Additional options explore political development, conflict and war, Brexit, and historical intersections of politics and society. The program fosters critical thinking, independent research, and applied knowledge, preparing graduates for careers in diplomacy, international organisations, policy analysis, security, and related fields.
