COURSE CURRICULUM

The Transport Planning MSc equips students with the skills and knowledge to design and manage sustainable, efficient, and equitable transport systems. The program covers core areas including integrated spatial planning, transport modelling, travel behaviour analysis, data collection and analysis, and future transport system development. Students gain practical experience through the Transport Integrated Project, working in multidisciplinary teams to solve real-world transport challenges posed by local authorities or industry partners. The dissertation allows for in-depth independent research on a specialist topic, often linked to industry projects. Optional modules provide further expertise in areas such as road safety, air quality policy, transport investment appraisal, railway appraisal, traffic network modelling, and choice modelling. Other options focus on social and environmental aspects of transport, including global policy transfer, system dynamics, green logistics, public transport planning, traffic management, and transport in development. Students develop analytical, research, and project management skills, alongside the ability to assess economic, social, and environmental impacts of transport interventions. The course emphasizes practical applications, enabling graduates to contribute to planning, policy, consultancy, and research in transport. With exposure to international case studies, cutting-edge modelling techniques, and interdisciplinary approaches, graduates are prepared for careers addressing contemporary challenges in urban mobility, sustainable transport, and infrastructure development worldwide.
