COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sustainability in Transport MSc equips students with the knowledge, technical expertise, and professional skills to address critical challenges in transport sustainability. The program covers environmental science, social and economic sustainability, and the decarbonisation of transport systems. Students gain practical skills in data collection, analysis, and modelling, as well as an understanding of international approaches to transport planning and management. Core modules include Environmental Science and Sustainability for Transport, Shaping Future Transport Systems, Transport Data Collection and Analysis, Perspectives on Sustainability, Environment and Development, and the Transport Integrated Project, which provides multidisciplinary, real-world industry experience. Students also undertake a Transport Dissertation, allowing independent research on a specialist topic with potential industry relevance. Optional modules provide opportunities to deepen expertise in areas such as Environmental Politics, Policy and Governance, Finance for Sustainable Development, Sustainable Spatial Planning and Analysis, Green Logistics, Public Transport Planning and Management, System Dynamics and Modelling Policy, Traffic Management, Transport Investment Appraisal, Air Quality Policy, Transport in Developing Countries, and Road Safety. The course combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on, applied experience, enabling students to develop sustainable solutions to complex transport problems. Graduates gain the skills to work across planning, policy, consultancy, and research roles in transport, contributing effectively to sustainable urban development, environmental protection, and social equity.
