COURSE CURRICULUM

The Statistics with Applications to Finance MSc equips students with advanced statistical and financial skills essential for analysing and managing financial data. The course covers both discrete-time and continuous-time finance, providing a comprehensive understanding of financial asset pricing, stochastic processes, and derivative instruments. Students gain expertise in risk management, learning to evaluate and mitigate risks through models such as Value-at-Risk, credit risk analysis, stress-testing, and hedging strategies. Time series data analysis develops students’ ability to model, forecast, and interpret financial data, addressing challenges like non-stationarity and seasonal effects. The program emphasizes research and practical application, with a dedicated research skills module enhancing presentation, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities in real-world contexts. The summer research project allows students to pursue an independent investigation in a specialised area of statistics or finance, guided by expert supervisors.
