COURSE CURRICULUM

The Year 1 curriculum of the Sport and Exercise Medicine MSc provides a comprehensive foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for careers in musculoskeletal and sports medicine. The program begins with Functional Sports Anatomy and Clinical Assessment, equipping students with an understanding of human anatomy in the context of sports performance and clinical evaluation. Musculoskeletal Medicine and Sport Injuries covers the assessment, diagnosis, and management of common musculoskeletal conditions and sports-related injuries, while the Sport and Exercise Medicine Practitioner modules I and II develop clinical reasoning, professional practice, and hands-on skills in sports medicine settings. Exercise Physiology, Health and Sports Nutrition provides students with the scientific principles underpinning exercise performance, energy metabolism, and dietary strategies to support health and athletic outcomes. Clinical Exercise Prescription focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of tailored exercise programs for individuals with varying health and performance needs. The curriculum culminates in Project Work and Dissertation, a 60-credit module that allows students to conduct an independent research project, integrating their learning, developing research competencies, and contributing to the evidence base in sport and exercise medicine. Together, these modules provide a balanced mix of practical training, scientific knowledge, and research experience, preparing graduates for advanced clinical roles, professional sports practice, and further academic research in the field.
