COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the Psychological Approaches to Health MSc combines core modules to provide a thorough grounding in research methods, theory, and practical application in health psychology. Compulsory modules include Advanced Research Issues in Psychology, which develops critical understanding of contemporary research debates and challenges in psychology, and Advanced Research Methods, which equips students with essential skills in designing, conducting, and analysing empirical studies. The MSc Research Project, a 60-credit module, allows students to undertake an independent research investigation, integrating theoretical knowledge and methodological expertise while developing skills in data analysis, scientific writing, and project management. Health-focused modules include Health Behaviour Change: Theories, Methods and Interventions, and its follow-up, Health Behaviour Change II: Developing, Evaluating and Optimising Interventions, which explore the principles of behaviour change, intervention design, and evaluation strategies to improve health outcomes. Systematic Review trains students in the critical assessment and synthesis of existing research evidence, while Theory and Intervention in Food and Nutrition examines psychological approaches to nutrition, diet, and related health behaviours. Together, these modules ensure that students gain a robust understanding of health psychology, practical experience in research design and implementation, and the analytical skills necessary to assess and improve health interventions. The program equips graduates for careers in health research, clinical practice, public health, and related fields where evidence-based psychological approaches are essential.
