COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics MSc at Leeds combines compulsory and optional modules to provide a comprehensive and flexible program. The core modules include the MSc Project, a 90-credit module where students plan and execute research under supervision, developing teamwork and problem-solving skills, and Current Research Topics in Physics, a 15-credit module that explores recent advances and seminars in various areas of physics. Optional modules, from which students can select between 30 and 75 credits, cover a wide range of subjects such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Medical X-ray Imaging, X-ray Computed Tomography, and advanced topics in soft matter physics, superconductivity, nanomagnetism, quantum physics, quantum information science, and quantum field theory. Further options include astrophysics-focused modules like Cosmology, Star and Planet Formation, and advanced computational techniques such as Molecular Simulation. Additional modules explore physics applications in biology and materials science, including Bionanophysics, Physics of Biological Systems, and Nobel Physics in Materials Science. Students may also choose Level 3 modules with approval, providing extra flexibility. Overall, the program balances rigorous theoretical study with practical and research-based learning, equipping students with a deep understanding of contemporary physics, technical expertise, and skills applicable across academic and industrial careers, from medical imaging and materials science to quantum technologies and astrophysics.
