COURSE CURRICULUM

The Nutrition MSc at Leeds provides a comprehensive foundation in the science and practice of human nutrition, equipping students with the knowledge and skills required for careers in research, public health, policy, and professional practice. Core modules cover a wide range of topics, including the relationship between diet and health, nutrition across the lifespan, human biochemistry and molecular nutrition, and personalised nutrition. Students gain practical experience in nutritional epidemiology, dietary research methods, and health promotion, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. The program also explores the role of nutrition in policy, examining the design, delivery, and evaluation of interventions aimed at improving diets and reducing health inequalities. Professional development is emphasised, with training in academic and research skills, scientific communication, laboratory practice, and ethics. The capstone research project allows students to undertake an independent, real-world study, applying experimental, computational, or applied research methods to address nutrition-related questions. Previous projects have examined topics such as the effectiveness of probiotic therapies, childhood obesity prevention, consumer perceptions of food labelling, and perceptual influences on portion sizes. Through a combination of scientific knowledge, applied practice, and professional skills development, graduates are well-prepared for roles as Registered Nutritionists, researchers, policy advisors, and healthcare professionals, as well as for further postgraduate study.
