COURSE CURRICULUM

The Inequalities and Social Science MSc offers a comprehensive program that equips students with the knowledge and skills to analyse and address social inequalities in diverse contexts. Core modules include creating effective data visualisations and exploring the causes, consequences, and interventions related to inequalities, providing a strong foundation in both theory and applied research. Students undertake either a dissertation or an applied project, allowing them to develop independent research skills while engaging with real-world issues. To strengthen research capabilities, students also choose from modules in research strategy and design, quantitative research methods, or qualitative research methods. The program includes a broad range of optional modules, such as child poverty and well-being, human rights and disabled people, global inequalities and development, decolonial and social thought, theorising gender, public administration and policy, social policy debates, and critical perspectives in environment and development. This variety enables students to tailor their studies according to their interests and career aspirations. By combining rigorous methodological training with interdisciplinary insights, the course fosters the ability to critically examine complex social, economic, and political factors that generate inequality. Graduates emerge with advanced analytical, research, and practical skills applicable to roles in policy, research, advocacy, and social development both nationally and internationally.
