COURSE CURRICULUM

The High-Performance Graphics and Games Engineering MSc includes a series of compulsory modules designed to develop both technical expertise and research skills in computer graphics and game development. The Group Project allows students to work collaboratively on a major computing project, enhancing team-working, project management, and applied technical skills. Foundations of Computer Graphics provides a thorough understanding of the physics, mathematics, and computation underlying graphics, focusing on high-quality rendering through software raytracing and the mathematics required to exploit accelerated graphics hardware. The Advanced Rendering module builds on this foundation, covering modern rendering techniques including cinematic offline rendering and real-time rendering on common computing platforms. Modelling and Animation introduces the preparation and implementation of graphical models and animation within games, ensuring students understand both the technical toolchains and their application in final products. The Research Seminar develops critical thinking and research skills, encouraging students to engage with cutting-edge topics, evaluate literature, formulate research questions, and design methodologically sound studies while participating in collaborative scholarly discussions. Finally, the MSc Project provides an opportunity to conduct an independent research project over the summer, working within an active research group on a specialist topic relevant to the games industry, applying appropriate research methods, and contributing to practical and theoretical advances in computer graphics and high-performance gaming applications.
