COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Informatics with Data Science MSc provides comprehensive training in the collection, analysis, management, and application of health data, equipping students with the skills required to meet the rising global demand for healthcare informatics professionals. The program covers statistical and modelling techniques for health sciences, including generalised linear and survival models, enabling students to analyse real-world healthcare outcomes such as treatment costs, hospital stay lengths, and mortality. Foundations of health data are explored, including types, sources, flows, standards, and the impact of data provenance on quality and usage. Students also study informatics and data science in healthcare and research, understanding their central role in evidence-based health management. The course addresses legal, ethical, and governance frameworks for health data, alongside human factors such as system design, usability, stakeholder engagement, and behaviour change. Advanced modules in artificial intelligence and machine learning teach supervised and unsupervised algorithms, feature selection, dimensionality reduction, and practical application in Python. The 60-credit research project allows students to design and execute independent research, combining literature review with applied analysis. Optional modules provide further expertise in health economics, international health, monitoring and evaluation of health programs, data visualisation, and qualitative health research, preparing graduates for evidence-driven, data-focused roles in health and policy sectors.
