COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Data Science and Analytics MSc equips students with the technical skills and practical knowledge to analyse, interpret, and visualise complex environmental data, addressing real-world sustainability challenges. The program builds foundational programming skills using Python, focusing on spatial data, reproducible scientific analysis, and ethical considerations in data use. Students gain hands-on experience through fieldwork, deploying sensors and collecting data, and learn to translate raw datasets into actionable insights across diverse environments such as freshwater, agricultural, and marine systems. Modules cover data handling, exploratory analysis, machine learning, visualisation, and practical applications, encouraging critical thinking and tailored analytical approaches. Students also enhance creativity and problem-solving abilities through collaborative coding projects. The course culminates in a substantial Environmental Data Science Project, which combines data analysis, programming, and insight generation to produce outputs relevant to industry and policy-making. Optional modules provide opportunities to specialise in areas such as GIS applications, digital image processing for remote sensing, environmental assessment, and web-based GIS development, ensuring students gain expertise in contemporary tools and techniques.
