COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Energy and Environmental Engineering at Leeds University provides comprehensive training in sustainable energy technologies and their environmental impacts, equipping students to tackle real-world energy and environmental challenges. The program covers a wide range of compulsory modules, starting with Energy Production Technologies, which introduces renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, hydro, tidal, and wave, combining theoretical understanding with hands-on practical sessions. Energy Vectors and Networks explores the integration of different renewable technologies, including hydrogen, geothermal, and solar thermal energy, to provide reliable and sustainable energy systems. Modules on Impacts of Atmospheric Pollution and Air Pollution Analysis and Control Techniques focus on understanding, modelling, and mitigating environmental pollutants from industrial, transport, and domestic sources. Bioenergy & Energy from Waste and Biorefining and Future Fuels examine sustainable biomass utilization, biofuels, and hydrogen production. Carbon and Energy Management addresses strategies for carbon reduction, net zero implementation, and lifecycle assessment. The Research Project allows students to apply their knowledge to a real-world problem, working alongside PhD students and industry collaborators to develop independent research skills. Optional modules, such as Energy Systems, Policy and Economics for Engineers, Energy & Sustainable Transport, and Electric Power, Generation & Distribution, provide additional expertise in sustainable energy systems, transport decarbonization, and power generation, bridging technical, economic, and policy perspectives.
