COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the Drug Discovery and Development MSc provides a comprehensive foundation in the principles, processes, and commercial aspects of the pharmaceutical industry. Compulsory modules are designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills needed to pursue a career in drug discovery and development. Introduction to Pharmaceutical Science and Commerce introduces the scientific and business frameworks that underpin the industry, providing context for the development and delivery of new medicines. Research Planning and Scientific Communication develops students’ ability to design experiments, analyse results, and communicate findings effectively to both scientific and non-scientific audiences. Drug Development: From Candidate to Patient explores the full lifecycle of drug development, from initial discovery through preclinical and clinical testing to regulatory approval and patient delivery. Foundations of Drug Discovery covers the core scientific principles, methodologies, and techniques used to identify and evaluate potential therapeutic compounds. Modern Drug Discovery focuses on current approaches, technologies, and innovations in the field, highlighting advances in medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology, and biotechnology. Collectively, these modules provide a strong grounding in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, enabling students to understand the complexities of drug development and prepare for further study or careers within pharmaceutical research, clinical development, and the wider life sciences industry.
