COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Clinical Embryology and Assisted Reproduction Technology (CEART) at Leeds is a comprehensive program designed to provide advanced theoretical knowledge and extensive practical laboratory training in reproductive biology, clinical embryology, and assisted reproduction technologies. In the first semester, students gain a strong foundation in human reproductive biology, covering gametogenesis, fertilisation, embryo development, implantation, pregnancy, and related pathologies, alongside an introduction to clinical andrology, male infertility, and semen analysis. Embryology in Practice equips students with essential laboratory skills, including IVF, ICSI, embryo culture, and microbiology considerations relevant to ART laboratories. The second semester focuses on the operational and scientific challenges of fertility clinics, laboratory management, quality assurance, molecular embryology, genetic testing, and fertility cryopreservation, advancing students’ practical and theoretical expertise. In the final semester, students consolidate their learning through the Assisted Reproduction Technology Research and Laboratory Portfolio, integrating laboratory training with the design and execution of an independent research proposal. Throughout the program, students develop critical skills in scientific communication, ethical and professional practice, and quantitative and qualitative research methods. By the end of the course, graduates possess comprehensive knowledge of reproductive science, practical competence in ART techniques, research experience, and the professional and transferable skills necessary to pursue careers in clinical embryology, reproductive medicine, and related fields, making them highly employable in both research and clinical settings.
