COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the MSc in Cardiovascular Health and Disease, students complete compulsory modules designed to provide a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of cardiovascular research. The module Cardiovascular Health, Disease and Diabetes: Basics and Beyond offers a comprehensive understanding of the heart, vasculature, blood, and metabolic conditions such as diabetes, covering key concepts and current scientific knowledge. Research Methods develops essential skills in study design, data analysis, and critical evaluation, ensuring students are well-prepared to undertake independent research. The Cardiovascular Project is a substantial research-focused module that allows students to apply their knowledge in a practical setting, conducting laboratory or analytical work under expert supervision and developing advanced technical and research skills. In addition to the core modules, students can choose from a wide range of optional modules to tailor their learning to specific interests and career goals. Options cover specialist areas including cardiac physiology, cellular, molecular and population biology, biological models and techniques, clinical trials research, public health management, entrepreneurship, and pharmaceutical sciences. Together, the compulsory and optional modules equip students with a blend of theoretical knowledge, practical expertise, and research experience, preparing them for careers in cardiovascular medicine, bioscience, healthcare, industry, academia, or further research in cardiac and metabolic health.
