COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation, students complete compulsory modules designed to build strong research and analytical skills. Research Skills and Data Analysis introduces key methods for collecting, interpreting, and presenting ecological data, providing a foundation for the Masters Research Project, which allows students to undertake a substantial independent investigation under expert supervision. This project develops practical, analytical, and problem-solving skills essential for careers in ecology, conservation, and environmental research. Alongside these core modules, students can choose from a wide range of optional modules to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. Options include Community Ecology, Introduction to GIS, Advanced Statistics, Masters Mediterranean Ecology Field Course, Plant and Insect Identification Skills, Habitat Management, Practical Conservation with the National Trust, GIS and Environment, Global Change Ecology, and Environmental Politics, Policy and Governance. These modules provide hands-on field experience, technical expertise, and a deeper understanding of ecological processes, conservation practices, and environmental management. Together, the compulsory and optional modules equip students with the knowledge, practical skills, and research capabilities necessary to pursue professional roles in conservation, ecological consultancy, environmental policy, or further academic research, preparing them to address real-world challenges in biodiversity protection and ecosystem management.
