COURSE CURRICULUM

The Advanced Computer Science (Cloud Computing) MSc combines core knowledge of computer science with specialised training in cloud technologies, giving students the skills to design, implement and manage large-scale distributed systems. Compulsory modules include Cloud Computing Systems, which develops practical expertise in cloud architectures and big data systems, Advanced Software Engineering, which enhances understanding of software design, patterns, and modern architectural styles, and the MSc Project, where students apply their learning to a substantial research project, often linked to industry and addressing real-world challenges such as energy-aware resource management or scalable serverless workflows. Optional modules provide further specialisation in areas including Data Science, enabling analysis of complex datasets; Blockchain Technologies, exploring distributed ledgers and applications; Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, covering formal representation and automated reasoning; Machine Learning and Deep Learning, developing algorithmic, statistical, and neural network expertise; Algorithms, focusing on efficient algorithm and data structure design; Programming for Data Science, offering foundational and advanced programming skills for AI and data analysis; Data Mining and Text Analytics, introducing text-based data analysis techniques; and Scientific Computation, addressing nonlinear equation systems and optimisation. Together, these modules equip students with both theoretical understanding and practical skills to tackle advanced cloud computing challenges and prepare them for careers in industry or research.
