COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medicine MRes is a research-intensive program designed to provide students with a thorough grounding in biomedical research methods and the skills needed to conduct high-quality, independent research. The course includes compulsory modules that cover essential aspects of medical research, beginning with Methods in Biomedical Research, which introduces students to key experimental designs, data collection techniques, and analytical approaches used in contemporary medical studies. Central to the program is the Research Project in Medicine, a substantial 120-credit module that allows students to undertake an extensive, hands-on investigation under the guidance of expert supervisors. This project provides an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world biomedical problems, develop technical expertise, and gain experience in experimental planning, data analysis, and scientific reporting. Complementing the research work, modules such as Paper Criticism in Medicine and Publication Review and Dissemination help students to critically evaluate scientific literature, understand the principles of peer review, and communicate research findings effectively through writing and presentation. Throughout the program, students develop transferable skills including critical thinking, independent problem-solving, data interpretation, and professional communication. The combination of practical research experience and theoretical training prepares graduates for careers in academia, clinical research, or industry, and provides a strong foundation for pursuing a PhD or advanced research roles in medicine and health sciences.
