COURSE CURRICULUM

The MMus Performance course is structured to provide students with a comprehensive and advanced understanding of musical performance through both practical and research-focused modules. Core components include the Recital, which accounts for 60 credits and serves as the primary platform for students to demonstrate their technical proficiency, interpretative skills, and artistic expression. Complementing this, the Researching Performance module develops students’ ability to situate their performance practice within broader academic and historical contexts, fostering analytical and reflective skills. The Concerto, Song-Cycle, or Extended Work module enables students to engage with complex, large-scale compositions, challenging them to refine their technical execution and interpretative insight. Applied Performance Studies further supports the development of versatile performance skills, encompassing aspects such as ensemble work, pedagogical approaches, and specialized performance techniques. Optional modules, including a Short Dissertation or Performance Practices, allow students to tailor their learning to their individual interests and career goals, providing opportunities to explore research, historical performance approaches, or advanced artistic techniques. Through a combination of individual lessons, masterclasses, and project-based work, the course equips students with the expertise, critical understanding, and practical experience required to excel as professional performers, enhance their artistic development, or prepare for practice-led research at doctoral level.
