COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Terrorism and Insurgency provides a focused and comprehensive study of the dynamics of terrorism and insurgency, combining historical, political, and analytical perspectives. The program’s core modules include Insurgency, Terrorism, and a Dissertation, offering a blend of theoretical knowledge, practical analysis, and research experience. The Insurgency module explores the causes, strategies, and impacts of insurgent movements, examining how political, social, and economic grievances contribute to armed resistance and rebellion. It also investigates the methods insurgents employ, from guerrilla tactics to asymmetric warfare, and how states and international actors respond to these challenges. The Terrorism module provides an in-depth study of terrorist phenomena, tracing their historical development, ideological foundations, and operational methods. It also considers the ethical and legal dilemmas involved in counter-terrorism, including the balance between security and civil liberties, and evaluates the effectiveness of national and international anti-terrorism policies. The Dissertation allows students to engage in independent research, developing critical thinking, analytical skills, and subject-specific expertise.
