COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of this Philosophy MA provides a strong foundation in analytic philosophy through two compulsory modules: Landmarks in Analytic Philosophy and Ways of Doing Analytic Philosophy, each worth 30 credits. These core modules introduce students to the key figures, texts, and methods of analytic philosophy, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills. Alongside these, students can choose from a range of optional modules to tailor their learning to specific interests. Options include Topics in the Philosophy of Physics, Mind, Language, Reality, Ethics, Meta-Ethics and Political Philosophy, Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Art, and Feminist Philosophy, offering exploration into both traditional and contemporary philosophical debates. Further options allow engagement with Continental Philosophy, the Philosophy of Logic and Mathematics, Kant, and Philosophy of the Social Sciences. For those seeking in-depth research experience, students may pursue a Philosophy Dissertation or an extended dissertation, alongside opportunities for Independent Study A and B. Additional specialized modules such as Topics in the Philosophy of Biology provide avenues to explore interdisciplinary connections.
