COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Communication MA equips students with a comprehensive understanding of how communication operates within a global context and its relationship with political, economic, and cultural dynamics. Core modules provide a strong foundation in communication and international affairs, exploring the influence of global media, the interplay between media and culture, and the theoretical and practical frameworks needed to analyse media flows and their impact on global audiences. The program also develops research skills through the dissertation and research methods module, allowing students to undertake independent, in-depth investigations into communication phenomena. Optional modules give students the opportunity to specialise in areas of personal or professional interest, such as gender and media histories, critical studies in visual communication, climate communication, identity and culture, public opinion, urban narratives, and the reporting of politics. Students critically examine the role of social media, traditional media, and global communication networks in shaping public discourse, identity, and perception, while considering the ethical and cultural implications of these processes. Through a combination of theoretical engagement, applied learning, and research, the course develops analytical, critical, and practical skills, preparing graduates for careers in media, public relations, international organisations, policy, or further academic research in global communication and related fields.
