COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global Development MA includes core modules designed to provide a strong foundation in understanding and engaging with development issues worldwide. The Global Development and Public Governance module introduces students to the structures, processes, and policies that shape governance at local, national, and international levels. It explores how institutions, political systems, and public administration influence development outcomes, enabling students to analyse governance challenges and evaluate policy effectiveness in diverse contexts. Research and Project Skills through Experiential Learning equips students with practical tools and methodologies for investigating development issues. This module focuses on developing critical research skills, project design, data collection and analysis, and the ability to communicate findings effectively. Students gain hands-on experience applying theoretical concepts to real-world development challenges, often through case studies, fieldwork, or collaborative projects. The Dissertation module allows students to undertake an in-depth independent research project on a topic of their choice within global development, combining theoretical understanding with empirical investigation. Through these modules, students build advanced analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, preparing them to critically assess development strategies, engage with policy debates, and contribute to evidence-based decision-making. Graduates are equipped for careers in development practice, policy analysis, international organisations, and further academic study.
