COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global Development and Education MA is designed to provide a deep understanding of the role of education in promoting social, economic, and political development, with a particular focus on the Global South. Students explore the ways in which education can contribute to equitable and sustainable development while also examining how educational systems and policies may perpetuate inequalities. The core module, Education in Development, equips students with the knowledge to critically analyse global and national strategies, policies, and programs that aim to improve access to and quality of education, while considering the complex interplay between global, national, and local actors. Education in Emergencies introduces students to the challenges of providing education in crisis situations, such as conflicts, natural disasters, and displacement, highlighting the strategies and frameworks used to ensure continuity of learning in these contexts. The Dissertation module allows students to apply their learning to an independent research project, exploring a topic of personal and professional interest, and developing skills in research design, critical analysis, and evidence-based policy evaluation. Together, these modules prepare graduates to engage with complex educational challenges, contribute to policy and practice, and pursue careers in international development, education policy, humanitarian organisations, and research, while promoting inclusive and sustainable educational outcomes worldwide.
