COURSE CURRICULUM

The English Literature MA at Leeds offers a diverse and flexible curriculum designed to develop advanced literary knowledge and research skills. In the first year, students complete compulsory modules including Yorkshire Literary Landscapes: Writing Places and Identities, which explores the relationship between literature, place, and cultural identity, and a substantial Research Project that allows students to investigate a topic of their choice in depth. Options cover diverse areas such as postcolonial and global literatures, children’s literature, digital and cultural studies, Victorian and contemporary texts, and thematic explorations like war, memory, citizenship, and multiculturalism. Students can engage with canonical authors such as Shakespeare, the Brontës, George Orwell, and contemporary novels, while also examining broader issues in language, society, archives, race, and storytelling.
