COURSE CURRICULUM

The Digital Humanities and Culture MA combines foundational training, independent research, and optional modules to provide a comprehensive understanding of digital approaches to arts, humanities, and culture. The compulsory modules include Exploring Digital Cultures, Texts, and Creativity, which introduces the principles, methods, and applications of digital humanities, allowing you to engage with problem-based projects, collaborative and autonomous work, and areas such as text analytics, data management, AI, digital creativity, and cultural collections. The Digital Humanities and Culture Research Project enables an in-depth, independent investigation on a chosen topic, using empirical, critical, or practice-based methods, supported through supervision and peer workshops. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning, offering opportunities to explore computational analysis of large textual corpora, digital storytelling, style and authorship attribution, and the cultural and ethical debates surrounding AI. Other options include examining archival practices and digital curation, studying Victorian print culture, or exploring medieval manuscripts through digital tools. Collectively, these modules equip students with both practical and theoretical expertise, fostering skills in research, analysis, digital tools, and creative application. Graduates gain the knowledge and experience needed to critically engage with cultural data and digital media, pursue advanced research, or apply digital humanities skills in professional and academic contexts.
