COURSE CURRICULUM

The Digital Design Futures MA is structured across three semesters to develop both theoretical understanding and practical expertise in digital design. In the first semester, you will explore design research and methods while learning about experiential practice and designing for immersion and engagement. This includes examining the impact of emerging technologies such as virtual, augmented and mixed reality, as well as artificial intelligence, on creative processes and user experiences. Through case studies, practitioner talks, and practical exercises in 3D modelling and XR development, you will gain hands-on skills to create engaging digital experiences. Semester two builds on this foundation, deepening your knowledge of immersion and engagement while introducing design speculation and creative problem-solving in response to specific challenges. You will apply theoretical insights to imaginative scenarios, further developing your critical and innovative thinking. The third semester is dedicated to the Specialist Project, allowing you to deliver a focused digital design solution with guidance and feedback from a dedicated staff member. Compulsory modules include Experiential Practices, Research Methods for Digital Design Futures, Design for Immersion and Engagement, Design Speculation, and the Specialist Project, providing a coherent framework for developing practical skills, research capability, and creative expertise. By the end of the program, you will have produced a substantial, industry-relevant digital design project, ready for professional practice.
