COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in Law and Social Justice is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of how legal frameworks intersect with social justice issues at local, national, and international levels. Compulsory modules focus on examining inequalities, the principles underpinning social justice, and the ways in which law can both address and perpetuate disparities. Students develop critical knowledge through modules such as Inequalities, Law and Justice, Theories of Social Justice, Postgraduate Legal Research Skills, and a Dissertation, which allows for in-depth exploration of a chosen topic. Optional modules enable students to tailor their studies to specific areas of interest, including criminal law, international criminal law, contemporary theories of crime and criminal justice, security, conflict and justice, environmental law, human rights, and global governance. Through this combination of core and elective modules, students gain the analytical tools to assess legal frameworks, policies, and their practical implications on diverse social groups. The program emphasizes developing advanced research, critical thinking, and communication skills, alongside the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Graduates are equipped to pursue careers in legal practice, policy development, advocacy, research, and roles in governmental, non-governmental, and international organisations, contributing to the promotion of equitable and inclusive justice systems worldwide.
