COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Law and Global Governance LLM provides students with a thorough understanding of the complex legal frameworks and governance structures that shape global relations. Through compulsory modules such as Postgraduate Legal Research Skills, Dissertation, Foundations of Global Governance Through Law, and Advanced Global Governance Through Law, students develop a strong foundation in international legal theory, research methodologies, and practical analysis. The course focuses on examining contemporary global challenges, including international justice, security, conflict, and human rights, and considers the legal mechanisms available to address these issues. Students are encouraged to critically analyse the role of key institutions, legal regimes, and governance structures in regulating state and non-state actors while assessing the effectiveness and limitations of these frameworks. Optional modules allow for further specialisation across topics such as international criminal law, globalisation and crime, comparative human rights law, inequalities and social justice, international economic law, and international financial regulation. By combining rigorous theoretical learning with applied research and practical skills development, the course equips graduates to navigate the increasingly interconnected and multipolar world. Students gain the analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities required for careers in international law, policy-making, diplomacy, human rights advocacy, and global governance organisations.
