COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law with French Law LLB at Leeds combines the study of English law with French legal systems while developing advanced French language skills. In the first year, students build foundational legal knowledge through modules on contract law, constitutional and administrative law, criminal law, legal skills, and law in context, alongside reflective and professional development through PRIME. French language modules focus on grammar, written and spoken competence, and oral skills through interactive classes. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of torts, criminal law, and the socio-legal approach to law while advancing French proficiency through modules on language in context, emphasizing register, style, and translation. European legal systems are introduced alongside optional modules such as company law, youth crime and justice, competition law, international human rights, family law, and employment law, allowing students to explore specialist areas of interest. In the third year, students spend a full year studying law in France or a French-speaking partner institution, gaining first-hand experience of a civil law system. In the final year, students advance in trusts, EU law, land law, and undertake a final year project, while optional modules such as cyberlaw, disability law, gender and the law, and privacy and media law allow exploration of contemporary legal issues. This degree equips students with legal knowledge, practical skills, intercultural competence, and the ability to navigate both English and French legal contexts effectively.
