COURSE CURRICULUM

The Zoology BSc offers a comprehensive study of animal biology, supported by practical fieldwork and laboratory experience across all three years. In year 1, students build foundational knowledge in cell biology, genetics, evolution, and biodiversity while developing essential scientific, analytical, laboratory and field research skills. Optional modules allow exploration of areas such as immunology, neuroscience, microbes, and vertebrate evolution. Year 2 deepens understanding through core modules in marine zoology, physiology, evolutionary biology and animal behaviour, alongside continued development of scientific excellence. Students can tailor their learning with optional modules in conservation, wildlife management, parasitology, bioinformatics, human populations and disease, or urban ecology, supported by additional field courses. In the final year, students apply their accumulated knowledge through an independent research project and study advanced concepts in animal behaviour. A wide range of optional specialist modules enables students to explore ecology, evolution, conservation science, genetics, developmental biology, and global fieldwork such as the South Africa field course. Throughout the program, students enhance research, problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills, preparing them for careers in conservation, research, ecology, environmental consultancy, wildlife management and related biological sciences.
