COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sustainability and Environmental Management BSc provides an interdisciplinary understanding of the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability and equips students with the skills to address complex global challenges. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules on environmental science, sustainable development, business and corporate responsibility, transport and mobility, and essential academic skills. Optional modules allow exploration of subjects such as ecology, natural hazards, water, and foundational chemistry or mathematics. In the second year, students advance their research and analytical skills through a major research-focused module and study the interactions between people, sustainability, and the environment, alongside adaptation and mitigation strategies to address climate change and other pressing challenges. Optional modules provide further opportunities to explore economics, sociology, biodiversity, GIS, and contaminated environments. The final year offers students the chance to specialise and conduct an independent research project, developing critical thinking, self-management, and research skills. Compulsory modules focus on change for sustainable development and an environmental research project, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world case studies. Optional modules cover topics such as environmental law, conservation, energy strategy, risk management, transport and health, and conflict and policy, allowing students to tailor their studies to personal interests and career aspirations.
