COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport and Exercise Sciences BSc provides a comprehensive understanding of the human body, movement, and physical activity, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In Year 1, students study the structure and function of human body systems, motor control, biomechanics, exercise physiology, and psychology, while developing practical skills in clinical, laboratory, and field settings. They also engage in team-based problem-solving projects and may choose from optional modules such as nutrition, injury support, sports analytics, or leadership. Year 2 builds on this foundation with advanced modules covering physiological responses, human movement, applied concepts in sport and exercise sciences, and experimental skills, alongside optional modules focusing on coaching, physical activity across the lifespan, event management, sports development, and strength and conditioning. Year 3 culminates in a capstone research project, where students undertake an extended independent or team-based investigation, supported by modules in research skills and professional development. Optional modules in the final year allow exploration of advanced topics including sports biomechanics, motor control, neurorehabilitation, exercise physiology, psychological health, rehabilitation, sports medicine, diet and cardiovascular health, and sports management. Across all years, students engage in discovery modules to broaden skills and knowledge. The program develops critical thinking, analytical, practical, and research skills, preparing graduates for careers in health, sport, fitness, coaching, rehabilitation, or further study in related disciplines.
