COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology BSc at the University of Leeds provides a comprehensive study of human mind and behaviour, integrating theory, research, and practical application across multiple subfields. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in developmental, cognitive, biological, social, and health psychology, alongside research methods and statistics, enabling them to critically evaluate theories and apply psychological concepts to real-world contexts. Applied research skills and optional discovery modules further enhance understanding and engagement. In the second year, students build on this foundation with advanced modules in neuropsychology, social psychology, cognition, perception, lifespan development, and qualitative research, deepening their knowledge and preparing for independent research. The final year emphasizes hands-on research through a major project, while offering a wide range of optional modules across health and social psychology, biological psychology, and cognitive psychology. These include topics such as occupational health, learning theory applications, social neuroscience, reasoning and decision making, eyewitness testimony, hemispheric lateralisation, language development, emotion, ageing, and developmental psychopathology. The course combines theoretical and applied perspectives, encouraging critical thinking, data analysis, and practical skills. By engaging with contemporary research, real-world applications, and specialised areas of psychology, students graduate with the expertise, experience, and confidence to pursue diverse careers or further study in psychology and related fields.
