COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology with Education BSc at the University of Leeds integrates psychological theory with educational practice, focusing on understanding and supporting learning and development across diverse contexts. In the first year, students study core areas of psychology, including cognitive, social, biological, and developmental psychology, alongside research methods and applied statistics, with a focus on child development and education. This provides a foundation for understanding how psychological principles inform educational practice. In the second year, students build on this knowledge with modules exploring learning and development in childhood and adolescence, the biological and cognitive bases of learning, and social psychology in educational settings, alongside advanced research skills and qualitative methods. Optional modules allow for deeper exploration of topics such as inclusive education, child welfare, health and wellbeing, and international pedagogy. The final year includes a major research project integrating psychological and educational knowledge, as well as practical experience in educational settings through the Students into Education module. Students also study supporting learning for children with additional needs and can choose from optional modules covering areas such as cognition, emotion, feminist social psychology, occupational health, and children’s literature. Overall, the program develops critical thinking, research skills, and practical experience, preparing graduates for careers in teaching, psychology, counselling, youth work, and other education-related fields.
