COURSE CURRICULUM

The Nursing (Adult) BSc at Leeds is structured over three years, combining academic study with practical clinical placements to prepare students for a professional nursing career. In the first year, students focus on foundational concepts of health and wellbeing, exploring patient safety, nursing across the lifespan, mental health, and family-centered care. Practical placements and modules such as applying key concepts of health and wellbeing and working in partnership reinforce teamwork, ethical practice, medication management, and patient communication, while introducing students to clinical experience. In the second year, the focus shifts to providing quality care, managing long-term conditions, and promoting health in challenging situations. Students develop skills in care coordination, delegation, evaluation, and working with diverse populations, while completing assessed placements that deepen clinical competence. The third year emphasizes advanced nursing practice, research, and professional development. Through a dissertation, students investigate a specific area of practice, critically appraising evidence and making practice recommendations. Modules on providing complex care and leadership and role transition equip students to assess and manage patients with complex needs, navigate ethical challenges, communicate effectively, and prepare for professional responsibilities. Across all years, the course develops resilience, reflective practice, and leadership skills, ensuring graduates are confident, compassionate, and ready to provide high-quality adult nursing care in diverse healthcare settings.
