COURSE CURRICULUM

The Neuroscience BSc at Leeds equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the human brain, nervous system, and related biomedical sciences, preparing them for careers in research, healthcare, and related fields. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge and skills through compulsory modules covering human body systems, basic neuroscience, pharmacology, practical laboratory and clinical skills, and team-based problem solving, while also selecting optional modules in immunology, microbiology, genetics, psychology, nutrition, or forensic psychology. In the second year, students advance their understanding through modules in experimental neuroscience, sensory and motor systems, neuropharmacology, and interdisciplinary team projects addressing global challenges. Optional modules allow exploration of human diseases, tissue engineering, cancer biology, drug development, medical immunology, and medical microbiology. In the final year, students consolidate their expertise through a Capstone Research Project, applying their skills in independent, project-based experiential learning. Additional modules focus on professional development, research skills, and advanced topics in neuroscience, neurophysiology, inherited disorders, animal models, and applied biomedical research. Throughout the degree, students develop critical thinking, scientific research, data analysis, and communication skills, with opportunities to explore current research, work collaboratively, and tailor their studies to individual interests, ensuring readiness for professional careers, further study, or interdisciplinary roles in the biomedical sciences.
