COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Financial Mathematics program at the University of Leeds provides a comprehensive education in mathematics and finance, preparing students for careers in financial services, business, technology, and related industries. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules in core mathematics, probability and statistics, computational mathematics and modelling, and financial and management accounting, alongside economic theory and applications for finance. This establishes the essential analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills required for further study. In the second year, students advance to more specialized topics, including statistical methods, stochastic processes, time series analysis, financial mathematics, and corporate financial management, while choosing an optional pathway in economics or accounting to tailor their learning. Mathematics options such as vector calculus, partial differential equations, linear algebra, optimisation, and discrete mathematics further strengthen analytical capabilities. In the final year, students undertake a major independent project in mathematics, exploring research and application, and study stochastic calculus and derivative pricing to understand modern financial markets. Depending on their chosen pathway, students may also engage with advanced modules in macroeconomics, microeconomics, actuarial mathematics, statistical modelling, professional portfolio management, and behavioural finance.
