COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Science BSc program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the Earth’s environmental systems and the interactions between natural processes and human activity. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge across the biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere, while developing essential academic, practical, and fieldwork skills including data analysis, experimental design, coding, and GIS. Core modules cover topics such as geology, ecology, weather, water systems, and natural resources, supported by hands-on fieldwork to reinforce learning. In the second year, students further develop their analytical and technical skills through modules on environmental measurements, data analysis, and GIS, while specialising in either Applied Environmental Science, which focuses on regional human-environment interactions, or Earth System Science, which examines global environmental cycles and climate processes. Fieldwork and tutorials continue to strengthen research and employability skills. In the final year, students undertake an independent research dissertation, allowing them to investigate a chosen topic in depth under academic supervision. Optional modules in both pathways enable students to focus on areas such as biodiversity management, climate change, meteorology, oceanography, and environmental risk. Throughout the degree, practical experience, field training, and research integration ensure that graduates are well-prepared for careers in environmental consultancy, research, policy, or sustainable resource management.
