COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics BSc at Leeds University provides a structured and comprehensive program designed to develop both theoretical understanding and practical skills in economics. In the first year, students build a foundation through compulsory modules covering economic theory and applications, economic perspectives and controversies, academic and research skills, mathematics and statistics, and the historical context of global economies. Optional modules allow students to explore specific areas such as economic institutions related to labour and industry or additional mathematics and statistics. In the second year, students progress to intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, statistics and econometrics, economics research methods, mathematics for business and economics, and the evolution of economic ideas. Optional modules in this year allow specialisation in areas such as health economics, industrial economics, international trade, labour economics, macroeconomic policy, and ethics. The third year focuses on advanced microeconomics and macroeconomics alongside a major dissertation, enabling students to undertake independent research. A wide range of optional modules allows students to tailor their studies further, including topics such as economic development, environmental economics, applied econometrics, behavioural economics, monetary theory, public enterprise, international economics, and corporate strategy. The program equips students with analytical, quantitative, and research skills, preparing them for diverse careers in economics, business, public policy, and research.
