COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics and Finance BSc at Leeds University Business School is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of both economic theory and financial practice. In the first year, students study core subjects including introduction to finance, financial and management accounting, economic theory, mathematics, and statistics, while also developing academic, professional, and research skills. Optional modules allow exploration of topics such as banking, economic history, and labour and industrial institutions. In the second year, the curriculum builds on this foundation with intermediate micro- and macroeconomics, corporate financial management, statistics, econometrics, and research methods, while students can choose optional modules in areas including financial accounting, management accounting, international economics, business economics, labour economics, and policy skills. The third year focuses on advanced economic and financial analysis, with compulsory modules in advanced microeconomics, advanced macroeconomics, and an economics dissertation. Optional modules enable specialisation in areas such as private equity, behavioural finance, contemporary banking issues, financial derivatives, auditing, corporate governance, international business finance, economic development, environmental economics, applied econometrics, and behavioural economics. Across all three years, students develop quantitative, analytical, research, and professional skills, combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications to prepare for careers in finance, economics, policy-making, and related fields.
