COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diagnostic Radiography BSc at the University of Leeds provides students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience required to become competent and professional radiographers. The course combines science, technology, and patient care, with a strong focus on clinical practice from the first year. Students develop an understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology alongside imaging principles, learning to produce high-quality diagnostic images using X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and other emerging technologies. Throughout the program, professional practice modules ensure students develop communication, teamwork, and patient-centred care skills while gaining hands-on experience in clinical environments. The first year focuses on foundational knowledge, including musculoskeletal, thorax, abdomen, and pelvic anatomy, pattern recognition, and the safe use of imaging technologies. In the second year, students expand their expertise through advanced anatomy and imaging modules, professional practice placements, and research methods training, preparing them to apply theory in complex clinical situations. The third year consolidates learning with advanced imaging, pathophysiology, and diagnostic pattern recognition, alongside a substantial research project and further professional practice placements. Optional modules allow students to specialise in areas such as paediatric imaging, forensic imaging, or work-based learning. Completion of all modules is required to meet the Health and Care Professions Council standards and gain eligibility to practice in the UK.
