COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science BSc provides a comprehensive foundation in computing, combining theoretical understanding with practical skills across three years of study. In the first year, students develop core programming skills, learn the fundamentals of computer systems and architecture, and explore the mathematical and theoretical foundations of computer science, gaining the ability to approach problems algorithmically and understand the interaction between hardware and software. Year two builds on this foundation with modules in software engineering, advanced computer systems, operating systems, parallelism, and continued study of theoretical principles, equipping students with expertise in software design, problem-solving, and system-level thinking. In the third year, students undertake an individual project to apply their accumulated knowledge, while studying professional innovation and enterprise to understand ethical, legal, and commercial aspects of the technology industry. Optional modules allow students to specialize in advanced areas such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, computer graphics, distributed systems, cyber-physical systems, algorithms, and compiler design, fostering creativity, independent research, and problem-solving skills. Across all three years, the program emphasizes hands-on projects, critical thinking, and practical applications, preparing graduates to innovate and excel in diverse sectors including technology, industry, research, and further study, while providing the knowledge and skills required to tackle complex contemporary computing challenges.
