COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry with Artificial Intelligence BSc at Leeds University combines the study of core chemical principles with the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence, providing students with interdisciplinary skills highly relevant to modern scientific research. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in chemistry, including practical laboratory skills, organic and inorganic synthesis, spectroscopy, and data analysis, while also gaining introductory knowledge in AI and programming through Python and machine learning fundamentals. Optional modules allow students to focus on AI applications in science or strengthen their mathematical background. In the second year, students build on these foundations, exploring organic, inorganic, and materials chemistry alongside more advanced AI and machine learning concepts. Laboratory work is closely linked to computational applications, enabling students to apply AI methods to chemical problems, while modules in machine learning cover statistical techniques, regression, classification, and neural networks. The final year focuses on research and specialization, with a compulsory project allowing students to conduct original research that integrates AI with chemistry, enhancing problem-solving, computational, and analytical skills. Additional modules in deep learning and advanced chemistry topics provide further expertise, preparing graduates for careers in cutting-edge areas such as drug discovery, materials development, computational chemistry, and sustainable scientific solutions, combining experimental and computational approaches.
