COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business Economics BSc at Leeds offers a structured yet flexible curriculum designed to develop a strong understanding of the economics of firms and markets while equipping students with practical analytical and research skills. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge through compulsory modules covering economic theory, applications, global history, and professional and research skills, alongside mathematics and statistics for economics and business. Optional modules allow exploration of areas such as organisational behaviour, labour, industry, and entrepreneurship. Year 2 deepens this understanding with intermediate micro- and macroeconomics, industrial economics, statistics and econometrics, research methods, and business economics, while offering optional modules in health economics, international trade, transport, ethics, and project appraisal, providing opportunities to tailor the degree to personal interests. In Year 3, students consolidate their learning through a compulsory dissertation and study of business and corporate strategy, while optional modules enable specialization in advanced topics such as micro- and macroeconomics, behavioural economics, environmental economics, economic development, applied econometrics, monetary theory, regulation, and the political economy of work. Across the three years, the course emphasizes the development of transferable skills, including quantitative analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving, preparing graduates for careers in consultancy, policy-making, finance, research, and other professional pathways in both public and private sectors.
