COURSE CURRICULUM

The Banking and Finance BSc at Leeds University provides a structured and progressive curriculum designed to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills relevant to the financial sector. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of banking and finance, including how financial information is reported and used for decision-making, alongside modules in mathematics and economics to build a strong analytical foundation. Students can also choose optional modules based on their current mathematical and statistical knowledge and explore university-wide discovery modules. In the second year, the focus shifts to consolidating core knowledge through compulsory modules in banking systems and commercial banking, while also developing commercial awareness and teamwork skills. Students can select from specialist optional modules such as credit analytics and Python programming for finance, as well as pathway modules exploring entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility, business economics, and small business management. In the final year, students undertake either a research dissertation or a financial analysis project, alongside compulsory modules covering investment banking, risk management, international banking, and financial derivatives. Optional modules allow exploration of advanced topics including behavioural finance, forensic accounting, and international business finance, as well as additional pathways in strategic management, macroeconomics, diversity management, and enterprise consultancy. Discovery modules remain available, ensuring a flexible and well-rounded final year experience that prepares students for careers across the banking and finance industry.
