COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering BEng at Leeds is a multidisciplinary course designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to design, analyse, and implement intelligent systems across industries such as transport, healthcare, and energy. In the first year, students build a foundation in electronics, mechanics, robotics, programming, and engineering mathematics, gaining hands-on experience with circuits, microcontrollers, and robotic mechanisms. The second year focuses on advanced electronics, machine learning, power electronics, embedded systems, and integrated mechatronic design, combining theory with practical projects to develop problem-solving and project management skills. Students learn to design, build, and test complex mechatronic devices, applying software, control systems, and manufacturing techniques. In the third year, the focus shifts to specialised topics such as control systems, electric machines, artificial intelligence, and electric power systems, alongside individual engineering projects where students tackle real-world problems, such as assistive robotic exoskeletons, miniature inspection robots, or wearable healthcare systems. The course integrates practical learning with theoretical knowledge, emphasising professional skills, ethics, and innovation. Graduates gain expertise in designing, programming, and analysing mechanical, electrical, and robotic systems, preparing them for careers in robotics, automation, AI applications, and related engineering fields, with a strong grounding in both research and industrial practice.
