COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering BEng degree provides a comprehensive foundation in the principles, materials, and methods essential to the discipline. In the first year, students study core subjects including architecture and sustainability, surveying, construction technology and management, structural analysis and design, materials, water and soils, and engineering mathematics, alongside an integrated design project. A weeklong field course allows students to apply surveying and teamwork skills using industry-standard equipment. In the second year, students consolidate technical knowledge with modules in water engineering and geotechnics, structural design and materials, engineering mathematics and modelling, and an integrated design project, while optional modules such as highway engineering, transport planning, sustainable engineering solutions, and building physics provide opportunities to explore specific interests. The third year introduces more advanced topics, including complex structural analysis, prestressed concrete, multi-storey building design, and foundation engineering, supported by modules in water engineering and geotechnics, an integrated design project, and an individual research project. Students may also participate in the Constructionarium field course, constructing scaled-down real projects to gain hands-on experience in planning, management, and health and safety practices. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as transport planning, environmental health, computational methods, building physics, and engineering geology, preparing students for professional careers in civil engineering or further study.
